Google has announced an exciting update for iPhone users: starting May 15, its AI-powered image editing tools, previously exclusive to Google's Pixel devices, will be available to all Google Photos users on iOS. This expansion not only brings sophisticated photo editing capabilities to a broader audience but also marks a significant step in making advanced technology more accessible.

The suite of tools includes popular features such as Photo Unblur, which sharpens blurry images, and Portrait Light, which allows users to adjust lighting in portrait photos. Another notable tool is Magic Eraser, designed to remove unwanted elements from photos seamlessly.

While most of these tools will be available to users without the need for a subscription, Google has introduced one exception. The Magic Editor, a more advanced generative AI tool capable of complex edits like repositioning subjects or altering backgrounds, will be restricted to ten free uses per month. Users looking for unlimited access can obtain it through a subscription to Google One’s Premium plan, which includes 2TB of storage.

These tools require devices to have at least 3GB of RAM and operate on iOS 15 or later, covering a wide range of recent iPhone models. For users on other platforms, the tools will also be available on Android devices running Android 8.0 or later and Chromebook Plus with ChromeOS 118 or later.

This rollout is part of a broader trend where tech giants like Google and Apple are increasingly integrating AI capabilities into their consumer services. Apple itself is reportedly exploring the expansion of its own generative AI tools, suggesting a growing competition in the AI-enhanced software space.

Google's move to make these powerful tools more broadly available could transform how users interact with their photos, providing both professional photographers and casual users with the ability to enhance their digital memories effortlessly.
